Description & Location

Come explore Alaska's Kenai Peninsula in summer! Join professional photographer Adam Woodworth as we visit glaciers, lakes with mountain views, and take a boat tour through the fjords!

This is being held in the summer. This means no darkness at night (twilight at best) and so very little chance of seeing the aurora unless it's a huge bright storm. It's being held in late June with hopes of still having snow on the mountains, and hopefully catching the lupines blooming in the Kenai.

This will largely be a roadside and easy hike type of workshop. If you're looking for a true wilderness camping experience this is definitely not that. We will focus on daytime landscape photography. There will be sunrises and sunsets but the days are very long and it's only twilight at night. Sunrise is around 4/4:30am and sunset is around 11:30pm/midnight depending on where we are. I am not planning on booking any bear or other wildlife tours during this workshop other than the boat tour mentioned below, so we will not actively seek out bears or moose, but there's always a chance we'll see them.

We will go on a boat tour leaving from Seward and exploring Kenai Fjords National Park, we will see glaciers, fjords, and marine wildlife. The tour is a full day at 8.5 hours and includes a light breakfast and deli lunch. The boat is on the smaller side with a capacity of 36 people so we won't be dealing with a hundred of tourists. If you are interested in this workshop but do not want to go on the boat please fill out the form at the end of this page and let me know that you would like to skip the boat, your price will be reduced to $1790 ($260 reduction from $2050).

A fair amount of driving is required for this workshop. You can arrange carpooling with another workshop client before or during the workshop. Expect driving to be at least 30 minutes each day, with some days being 1+ hour and the longest day being around 3 hours, but that is just an estimate.

I will provide personal attention to each person throughout the class. We will likely have some time to do an editing session where I will demonstrate Lightroom and Photoshop techniques, but our main focus will be photographing the amazing Alaskan landscape!

  • Sunrise & sunset photography
  • Long exposure photography
  • Focus stacking
  • Planning shots with PhotoPills (available on the App Store or Google Play)
  • Forecasting sunrises and sunsets
  • Lightroom & Photoshop editing

The schedule is subject to change depending on weather.

Our days will start early and end late. We will likely use the middle of the day (at least sometimes) for resting. Sunrise is around 4/4:30am and sunset is around 11:30pm/midnight depending on where we are.

June 22: Meet & Greet in Eagle River at 4pm (the town near Anchorage), sunset photography nearby with river and mountain views.
June 23: Head out early to start the drive to Seward on the Kenai Peninsula. Make some stops on the Turnagain Arm on the way, evening photography on the Kenai.
June 24: Photography on the Kenai Peninsula.
June 25: Boat tour out of Seward.
June 26: Photography on the Kenai Peninsula. Workshop ends after sunset.

Lodging is NOT included but we have blocks of rooms held. More info will be available after you request your spot on this workshop. You will need to book your own lodging, and it doesn't need to be where we have the blocks held. Expect prices to be around $200 per night while in Seward, and less for the first night near Anchorage (Eagle River). You could also rent an SUV and sleep in the back during the trip.

The first night of lodging will be in Eagle River or Anchorage (depending on what is available). The rest of the workshop will be based out of the town of Seward on the Kenai Peninsula.

You are responsible for all meal costs.
